Has having a boyfriend made it difficult to travel and do gigs around SA?

I didn’t say I had a boyfriend now did I? But if I did I wouldn’t let it affect my career.

Your first gig is always a make or break situation, did you have to change your DJ name after playing your first set or was it really good?

To tell you the truth, I was so nervous at my first gig, I cant even remember how I did…probably not very well as id only been playing for a few months.

Its tough making it in the DJ industry, what was the moment that got you your spot under the spotlight, all DJ’s go through some embarrassing moment right?

It was probably at the first KISS party…I had my earphones on and didn’t hear the main system go off, so I kept on mixing until I saw my friends face…and then I saw that everyone was just standing there looking at me! VERY embarrassing!

Being a DJ is one mission, but getting good enough to release a CD is REALLY tough, what has been the making point of the brand, Erica Elle, was it Party House?

I think it’s a combination of various aspects. Party house has definitely helped me through!

I have to admit that the whole club CD thing was getting old for me, but Erica you managed to pull it together with this one, Party House, the album, keeps you wanting more, you guys obviously knew you had to do something different to the rest, what is it that makes this release so special?

We wanted to make sure that people know exactly what Party House the club, has to offer…Rocking music, so we based it on the clubs vibe which is very special!!

House music, or Funky House in specific was in desperate need of a change, do you think that the electro sound coming through now is the change that was needed or do you see the music changing again very soon?

I think the electro sound is completely different to the sound played a few years ago, but the beauty of music is that it is constantly changing, so no doubt it will develop into another sound eventually!

When are we going to see some Erica Elle Productions, are you working on any music at the moment?

Yes I am! But music production is another avenue completely, so please give me a little time! Its coming!!!!

What is your favorite crowd to play to?

Jozi is always good of course but one of my favorite sets was in PE… the people there are awesome!

What does Erica Elle do when she’s not blowing the roof off of a dance floor?

Teaching dancing and spending as much time as possible with my family and friends.

BOTH!!!

If you could have anything in the world what would it be and why?

A credit card without a limit, why not! YAAAAY!!!

Your greatest achievement up to date?

DJing wise, this CD! Very excited about it!!!

This is so cliché but if you could give some advice to upcoming DJ’s, what would it be other than never give up, everyone says that!!!

Respect every other DJ, because even if their style isn’t your thing, we are all doing it for the love of music at the end of the day!

I interviewed Carl Cox last year, as you know one of the most successful DJ’s on the planet, yet he is the most down to earth DJ I have ever come across, his love for music and people is what has driven him over the years, what is it that makes you get behind the decks and play your heart out?

I love sharing the space with people who love music just as much as I do, its an amazing environment to be in.

Your hero is…

I don’t think I can answer this question. I respect way too many people to only name one. Everyone has something special about themselves!!

A lot of DJ’s have a problem of groupies wanting to jump them at every opportunity they get, what was the weirdest offer you ever got from a groupie or fan?

I think I’ve had all the usual offers, nothing very hectic fortunately. People are usually very friendly actually!
